STEPHANIE BOUILLIEZ & MYRIAM BÂ

In 2007, Stephanie Bouilliez & Myriam Bâ, artists/graphic designers created the artist group PBB with Aleksandra Plavsic, a musician and an acoustic designer. The first collection of «  illustrated porcelain» entitled « ma vaisselle est belle » marks the beginning of this collaboration. Their work  consists in appropriating some daily objects and revealing  their peculiarities.

Have  you ever worked  on  creation of carpets before participating in Chevalier édition’s project ?

No, none of us. We have approached this project with a total innocence !

What’s your idea of carpet, today?

A carpet is no longer something we put on the floor in the centre of a room because it’s usual to see a carpet in front of a sofa…

Today, a carpet is an object in its own : a place of liberty, a space of expression, as well for the artist as for  the owner. We would like to develop carpets  first of all through design,  then through  shapes.

What has motivated you to participate in this project ?

In  our artist group PBB, we are used to think  and work about  creation of  Objets d’art . When Maison Chevalier has proposed us to create a carpet, how could we refuse !

Have you grasped this creation in a particular way?

Yes, we did it  with two heads and four hands !

What was your inspiration for your creations?

First of all, we wanted to  take advantage of the expression space that had been given to us. With  « Topography » and « Wood», we wanted to move references from outside to  inside. It seemed to us pertinent for an object usually found inside a room . For « Abstract » it’s a page of handwriting, the beginning of a story… « Lumière persane» is a wink  to  know-how, to history of carpets and also to  « Maison Chevalier ».

In your opinion, which is the ideal place to put your carpets?

The important question for us is not the ideal place but rather the way the carpet is grasped. We would like it to be the central point of a room : “Show me your carpet and I ‘ll say who you are”
